About Snake River - Project X
The Main Snake River, known locally as "Project X," runs from Gem State Dam to American Falls Reservoir, flowing through the area between Idaho Falls and Blackfoot. This is a large river, characterized by swift currents, deep channels, and braided sections. Trout are present in Project X, with good potential for fish over 20 inches, and some exceeding 30 inches. Other sections of the Main Snake River also hold rainbow trout, brown trout, cutthroat, smallmouth bass, and carp. Fishing here is demanding; it’s not about high numbers but rather the effort put in and listening to local guidance. Nymphs and streamers are effective, typically fished from drift boats.
