About Indian Creek

Indian Creek, a Laurel Highlands Trout Trail stream, offers a diverse trout fishing experience. This approximately 25-mile waterway begins in Forbes State Forest and flows through historic mining communities before joining the Youghiogheny River. Anglers will find a mix of stocked and wild trout, including brook, brown, and rainbow trout, with improved water quality in the lower reaches supporting smallmouth bass as well. While aquatic insect life isn't abundant, effective fly patterns include streamers and Woolly Buggers, particularly in early spring, along with nymphs and dries such as Adams, Blue Dunn, Hare's Ear, BWOs, March Brown, midges, and terrestrials. The upper 1.6-mile section near Hunters Lane is designated Delayed Harvest Artificial Lures Only (DHALO), requiring all trout to be released between Labor Day and June 14th, with a creel limit of three trout nine inches or longer between June 15th and Labor Day. Access is available via numerous side roads and the undeveloped Indian Creek Valley Trail, though backcasts can be challenging in brushy meadow areas. Nearby amenities and attractions, including Seven Springs and Hidden Valley Resorts, are a short drive away, and local tackle shops like PA Fly Co and B&G Bait & Sport Shop are conveniently located.
