About Spinney Mountain Reservoir
Spinney Mountain Reservoir is a Colorado Gold Medal Lake renowned for its trophy-sized rainbow trout, exceptionally large brown trout, and aggressive rainbow/cutthroat hybrids. This expansive 2,500-acre reservoir offers excellent fly fishing opportunities from spring thaw until early autumn, with fishing permitted from sunup to sundown. Anglers can expect consistent insect activity, including Chironomids, Scuds, Callibaetis, and Damsels, providing ample opportunities for both nymphing and dry fly fishing. While boats are permitted and often enhance success for targeting larger trout, unpredictable winds can necessitate caution. Waders can also effectively access many productive areas along the reservoir's shores. Remember to pack ample supplies, as amenities are several miles away.
