Twisted Caddis

The Twisted Caddis, crafted by Umpqua Signature Tyer Josh Smitherman, is a durable and realistic caddisfly nymph pattern designed to withstand high fish counts and rugged fishing conditions. Part of Smitherman's "Twisted Series," this fly features a segmented abdomen made from twisted Spanflex, providing both durability and a lifelike appearance. The thorax and collar are constructed from CDC, imparting a buggy look with enhanced movement. Weighted with lead wire and a brass bead, the Twisted Caddis effectively reaches deeper water columns, making it a versatile choice for targeting trout in various environments.

Two-Speed Retrieve: After dead drifting the Twisted Caddis in slower water, initiate a fast-strip retrieve halfway through. This sudden change in speed mimics a caddis escaping toward the surface and can incite territorial or reflexive strikes from fish trailing the fly.
