Description
The Partridge and Peacock with Gold Butt, also known as Jody’s Peacock, is a modern variation of the traditional peacock-bodied soft-hackle flies of Northern England. It retains the classic peacock-herl body and mottled partridge hackle while adding a short gold butt for contrast and subtle flash. The exact originator and date of this variation are unknown.
Curated by the IdentaFly fly fishing team.
Pro Tip
Fish it unweighted behind a heavier fly, but shorten the dropper spacing to about 12–16 inches. The lead fly pulls it down during the drift, then the soft hackle rises sharply when the leader tightens—often triggering a strike from following trout.
