The Partridge & Peacock fly pattern - Wet Flies nymph image

Description

The Partridge and Peacock, also known as the Brown Hackle Peacock, is a classic soft-hackle wet fly with roots in the traditional spider patterns of Northern England. Its sparse peacock-herl body and mottled partridge collar create an impression of emerging caddis, struggling mayflies, and drowned terrestrial insects. After reaching America during the 19th century, it became especially popular throughout the Appalachian region. Author Sylvester Nemes later helped introduce soft-hackle fishing to a broader generation of anglers.

Curated by the IdentaFly fly fishing team.

Pro Tip

Apply floatant to only the partridge hackle and fish the fly just beneath the surface. The buoyant collar slows its descent while the peacock body hangs below, creating the profile of an insect trapped in the surface film.
