About Shoshone River

The Shoshone River is a 100-mile tailwater fishery in northern Wyoming, originating below Buffalo Bill Dam near Cody and flowing into Bighorn Canyon National Recreation Area. This dynamic river system offers excellent opportunities for trout, including Yellowstone cutthroat trout and brown trout, particularly in its "blue ribbon" upper reaches. Anglers can anticipate hatches of Blue Wing Olives and Caddis, making it a prime location for dry fly and nymphing strategies. The Shoshone's varied sections, from canyon stretches to more open flows, accommodate both wading and floating, providing diverse fishing experiences.
