About Fish Lake
Fish Lake, a high alpine oasis in Central Utah, is the state's largest natural mountain lake, situated at over 8,800 feet elevation. This deep, clear lake offers excellent opportunities for anglers targeting large mackinaw trout, which can exceed 30 pounds, alongside rainbow trout, kokanee salmon, splake, and yellow perch. While shore fishing is possible, most success comes from casting from a boat, with three marinas providing boat launch access on the west shore. The lake is known to have insect activity, with anglers reporting success during hatches of Caddis and Yellow Sallies. For those who prefer to explore on foot or by bike, the 17-mile Lakeshore National Recreation Trail encircles the lake, offering varying levels of difficulty and stunning views. Camping options abound in the surrounding Fishlake National Forest, and nearby amenities ensure a comfortable stay for those looking to experience this remarkable mountain fishery.
