About Yellow Creek
Yellow Creek, a tributary of the Raystown Branch of the Juniata River in south-central Pennsylvania, presents a diverse fly fishing experience for both wild and stocked brown trout. Above Loysburg, this Class A wild trout water meanders through open meadows, while downstream near Loysburg Gap, anglers will encounter challenging pocket water, deep pools, and fast riffles created by large boulders. A notable section, known locally as Ferrier's Run and running 2-3 miles towards Homer City, offers classic freestone wading opportunities with the potential for catching large brown trout migrating from an upstream private stocking program. Key hatches on Yellow Creek include Grannom Caddis, Blue Quill, Hendrickson, March Browns, Green Drakes, Sulphurs, and Golden Stoneflies. A mile-long Catch-and-Release, Flyfishing Only section is easily accessible from State Road 1024, with parking available off Jacks Corner Road, making it a prime location for anglers seeking memorable encounters.
