About Pine Creek
West Branch Pine Creek is a 17-mile tributary of Big Pine Creek located in Potter County, Pennsylvania, offering a diverse fly fishing experience for brook and brown trout. This high-gradient stream features numerous riffles and pocket water, becoming a Class A wild trout fishery with brush-choked, skinny water for approximately 7 miles above Lyman Run. Downstream from Lyman Run, West Branch Pine Creek is primarily a stocked fishery with rainbow and brown trout. Anglers can anticipate significant hatches including Hendrickson, Quill Gordon, Blue Wing Olive, Green Drake, March Brown, Sulphur, Slate Drake, and Trico. West Branch Road parallels the stream, providing convenient access with numerous turnouts for both wading and fishing from canoes or kayaks. A 9-foot 5-weight rod with floating line is well-suited for targeting trout with dry flies and small nymphs in this pocket water.
