About Lehigh River
The Lehigh River, a significant Pennsylvania tributary to the Delaware River, provides over 100 miles of diverse fly fishing opportunities, boasting robust populations of wild brown and rainbow trout, along with smallmouth bass. Anglers can explore the tailwater below Francis E. Walter Dam, which experiences water level and temperature fluctuations but holds healthy trout numbers supplemented by stocking, or a 20-mile stretch of easy-to-wade waters flowing through glacial bogs near Gouldsboro. For classic trout stream experiences, numerous coldwater tributaries, including Tobyhanna Creek, offer excellent fishing. Key hatches to anticipate include Caddis, Golden Stone, and Blue Wing Olive. While the river can present wading challenges with slick boulders, ample access points from White Haven to Walnutport cater to both waders and float anglers, with boat ramps facilitating trips through the scenic Lehigh Gorge.
