About Falling Spring Branch Creek
Falling Spring Branch Creek is a narrow, four-mile limestone spring creek near Chambersburg, Pennsylvania, averaging 25 feet wide and maintaining a cool temperature year-round. This fishery is home to wild and stocked brown and rainbow trout, with the upstream section managed under Catch-and-Release – Flyfishing Only regulations. Anglers will find challenging, educated trout that require accurate fly selection, especially with the presence of lush aquatic vegetation. Key insect hatches include Blue Winged Olives, Blue Quills, Light Cahills, Caddisflies (Cinnamon and Spotted Sedges), Sulphurs, and Tricos, offering diverse fishing opportunities. The creek is accessible for wading, with most of the stream flowing through private property where landowners are generally accommodating. A 9-foot 3-wt fly rod with floating line and 4X-6X tippet is recommended for dry fly and nymph fishing.
