About Delaware River - Upper

The Upper Delaware River in New York, a 73.4-mile stretch from Hancock to Sparrowbush, is a Wild and Scenic River offering excellent fly fishing for feisty rainbow trout and increasingly large brown trout exceeding twenty inches. Anglers will find opportunities to target these species with a variety of flies including Blue Winged Olive, Blue Quill, Quill Gordon, Hendrickson, Dark Hendrickson, Light Cahill, Sulfur, and Pale Evening Dun patterns. Access is best achieved via drift boat due to much of the shoreline being private, though wading is possible in certain sections. The river features long pools and gentle riffles interspersed with large boulders and steep drop-offs, making it a rewarding destination for those venturing off the beaten path.
