About Caldwell Creek

Caldwell Creek, a medium-sized freestone stream in Northwestern Pennsylvania, offers challenging yet rewarding fly fishing for both native and stocked brown trout, along with wild brook trout. This heavily wooded tributary of Oil Creek features a robust aquatic insect population, including plentiful Mayflies, Caddisflies, and Stoneflies, making it ideal for dry fly and nymphing. Access to the West Branch, known for its tree-lined canopy and undercut banks, is available via State Routes 304 and 357, though some hiking is required. The main stem, accessible from Doytville Road, boasts deep pools and excellent canopy coverage, providing ideal conditions for large holdover brown trout and is wadeable. A year-round catch and release section extends over three and a half miles from the West Branch Bridge to Three Bridge Run, offering continuous fishing opportunities.
