About Buffalo Creek
Buffalo Creek is a long freestone stream in Western Pennsylvania, originating near Chicora in Armstrong County and flowing into the Allegheny River near Freeport. This stream is heavily stocked with rainbow trout and brown trout, with a 3.69-mile Keystone Select Delayed Harvest Artificial Lures Only section receiving larger trout over 14 inches. While natural reproduction is limited, projects have improved habitat in the special regulations section, though the creek remains impacted by pollution and sediment. Anglers will find stocked trout to be the most common catch, alongside native creek chubs and occasional common carp. Despite significant angling pressure, especially in the stocked areas, success can be found by moving away from obvious access points. Drifting nymphs, particularly Prince Nymphs and Perdigons, and stripping streamers like Woolly Buggers are effective methods, as is spin fishing with lures.
