Report Summary for Apr 2026
This year: Silver Creek is fishing well with clear water conditions. Flows are stable, characteristic of a spring-fed system with very low variability. The main stem is running around 109-112 CFS, with water temperatures in the upper 40s to low 50s Fahrenheit. Most public access points are open; preserve-managed reaches have signed rules. Park at designated lots and leave gates as found. While certain sections may be closed, fishing remains open downstream of the Kilpatrick Bridge. Anglers should focus on subsurface presentations, as all fishing will be subsurface. Swinging smaller streamers or soft hackles can be very effective. Midge patterns are a key food source and will be productive throughout the day and evening, covering all life stages. Blue-winged Olives are active, especially in the mornings and during cooler periods, with emergers and rising fish commonly observed. You may also encounter Caddis, Callibaetis, and Pale Morning Dun hatches. For subsurface fishing, try patterns like the Zebra Midge, Pheasant Tail Nymph, and Silvey's Soft Serve. Don't forget to have some streamer options like a Cone Head Muddler Minnow or Rowley's Waste Troll Leech for swinging.
Best time of day: All day
Prior years: April on Silver Creek brings consistent insect activity. Midges and a few Blue Wing Olives are hatching. Anglers can find rising trout during these hatches.
