Report Summary for Apr 2026

This year: Flow has been good with clarity clear. The Frying Pan is running around 44 CFS in early April, picking up to around 78 CFS by mid-month. Fishing has been good. Access is mixed public and private, so a map is key, especially downstream around mile markers 7 and 4 where it fishes more like a freestone. Watch for well-marked private water. Nymph fishing is the ticket right now. Focus on Mysis Shrimp, Midges, and Annelids. Downstream, try Midges, Eggs, Leeches, and jig patterns. Expect Midges and Blue Wing Olives (BWOs) to be active. Caddis are also mentioned. For flies, try small nymphs like BTB Black Quill Nymphs and The Cruncher Black Quill in sizes 20-24. Parachute Adams in 20-22 are a good bet for dries. Streamers like Sculpzilla and crayfish patterns like Candyman Crayfish are also recommended.

Prior years: Water clarity has been clear. Water temperatures are around 6 degrees Fahrenheit. Fishing quality has been moderate, with increased activity noted on weekends. Access is generally straightforward, with no specific hazards reported. Fishing is best in the afternoon. Focus on nymphing with small patterns. Look for slower water near structure. Expect hatches of Blue Wing Olives and Midges, with some Caddis activity. Try small emergers and nymphs in sizes 18-24, as well as dry flies in sizes 16-22.

Access information

Avoid the crowds and fish downstream at mile markers 7 and 4. There is quite a bit of public access mixed in with the private water so a good map or guide is key. Private water on the pan is very well marked.
