Description

Nymphs have flattened bodies and six long, tightly bunched, spider-like legs that protrude from the upper region of the body. Large eyes dominate the relatively small head, from which two small antennae protrude. Size up to 1 inch with coloration ranging from ginger to dark brown. Adult – Have a pair of large eyes and two pairs of robust, transparent wings from 2-6 inches wide, occasionally adorned with colored patches. At rest their wings are set apart and flat. Colors like yellow, red, brown, and blue; sometimes the wings have brown spots and bands. Male damselflies typically have transparent wings and some type of colorful blue, green, or purple body, while the females usually have a golden-brown color, even on their wings.
