The Stimulator Rubber Legs is a modern take on the classic Stimulator pattern, designed to enhance visibility and fish-attracting qualities. Originating as a versatile dry fly for imitating stoneflies and large terrestrial insects, this updated version incorporates new synthetic materials, including a flashy underwing and crystal dubbing. Tied on durable hook sizes ranging from 8 to 14, The addition of rubber legs brings lifelike movement and a buggy silhouette, while the brightly colored elk hair wing and stiff hackle ensure excellent floatation and visibility in fast-moving or turbulent water.

Make a long dead-drift through your target seam, then add one deliberate upstream mend at the halfway point. That sudden micro-lift makes the rubber legs flutter downward as the fly re-settles—perfectly imitating a stonefly or hopper kicking to regain balance. Trout often strike immediately after the mend, when the fly “stumbles” back into the drift.
