Chubby Chernobyl

The Chubby Chernobyl is a versatile and effective fly designed to serve as an attractor pattern. Its design allows it to mimic various insects, presenting itself as a grasshopper, a stonefly, a cricket, and many others. The fly's ability to imitate multiple insects makes it an excellent choice for situations where trout are actively feeding and responsive to larger, high-riding patterns.

Trim a very slight taper into the bottom foam layer so the fly sits nose-up at rest. This subtle angle makes the wing shimmer on micro-currents and gives the fly a naturally “skittering” posture when twitched. Fish respond to that posture far more aggressively, especially during mixed caddis/stonefly activity when they’re keying on movement rather than a dead drift.
