Light Spruce fly pattern - Streamers baitfish image

Description

The Light Spruce is a classic feather-wing streamer created in 1918 by brothers Bert and Milo Godfrey for sea-run cutthroat trout. Its contrasting wing, flowing hackle, and slender profile imitate small minnows and other baitfish. Although developed for coastal cutthroat, it has also proven effective for resident trout and steelhead.

Curated by the IdentaFly fly fishing team.

Pro Tip

Before fishing, wet and stroke the feather wings backward so they collapse into a narrow baitfish profile. This helps prevent the wings from splitting or twisting and allows the Light Spruce to track naturally through the current.
