Description
The Ice Cream Cone Midge was designed by Canadian fly tier Phil Rowley to mimic the pupal stage of chironomids, which are crucial to trout diets in still waters. This fly gets its name from its distinct white bead head, which resembles the top of an ice cream cone and mimics the trapped gas bubble that helps chironomids rise to the surface.
Pro Tip
Slow Retrieve: Cast the fly out and let it sink. Use a slow hand-twist retrieve to mimic the natural, slow ascent of chironomid pupae. Experiment with pauses to trigger strikes.
