Description
The Gypsy King, crafted by Rance Rathie, the owner of Patagonia River Guides in Argentina, is a terrestrial pattern with a fascinating twist. Initially designed to mimic the Cantaria Beetle, it has gained popularity in the country as a stonefly imitation, despite the distinct differences between the two insects. It makes a deadly Stonefly, Hopper, Cricket, and Moth pattern.
Pro Tip
Fish the Gypsy King tight to fast seams and pocket water, then give it a sharp, one-inch “pop” right after it lands. The combination of elk hair, rubber legs, and hackle makes the fly kick and skate for a split second—perfectly imitating a stonefly or drowned terrestrial trying to regain control. Trout often crush it before it even begins the drift.
