CDC Transitional Midge

CDC Transition Midge is a fly pattern designed to mimic the transitional phase of a midge during its emergence from pupa to adult stage. The CDC Transition Midge was developed to target fish feeding on midges that are in this crucial phase, often near the surface but not fully emerged. The fly is designed with a CDC (Cul de Canard) body and wing, which gives it a soft, translucent appearance, simulating the delicate nature of the midge’s transition.

Dead Drift is Essential – When fishing the CDC Transition Midge, ensure a perfect dead drift with no movement. Midges in transition do not actively swim or flutter, so casting the fly upstream and allowing it to drift naturally, with no rod manipulation, mimics the way midge pupae rise to the surface.
