To maximize its effectiveness, employ a twitch-and-pause retrieve, mimicking the movement of a distressed worm.

Before presenting the fly, pinch a tiny flat spot into the chenille body with your fingers. That subtle asymmetry makes the fly plane slightly sideways as it sinks—mimicking a wounded nymph or scuttling crayfish. Carp key in on that off-balance drift and will move farther to eat it.
