About Salt River

The Salt River is an 84-mile-long Wyoming fishery flowing through the scenic Star Valley before joining the Snake River, renowned for its populations of Yellowstone cutthroat, brown, brook, and rainbow trout. Anglers can anticipate excellent insect activity, including hatches of Golden Stoneflies, Pale Morning Duns (PMDs), Blue-Winged Olives (BWOs), and Caddisflies, as well as terrestrial opportunities with grasshoppers and ants. This river is ideal for testing skills with dry fly, nymphing, and streamer techniques. Wyoming Highway 89 parallels much of the river, offering accessible fishing spots, including the area known as "The Narrows." Historically significant, the Salt River watershed was a vital resource for Native Americans and pioneers.
