About Rock Creek
Rock Creek, a tributary to the Clark Fork River near Missoula, Montana, offers excellent fly fishing for rainbow and brown trout across a fourteen-mile stretch from Dalles to the Clark Fork. The upper half features rapid currents and deep pools, while the lower half is flatter with sporadic pools and numerous feeder creeks. Significant hatches include March browns, Skwala stoneflies, Salmonflies, Golden Stoneflies, Pale Morning Duns, and Blue-winged Olives, providing diverse dry fly and nymphing opportunities. Rock Creek Road runs parallel to the river, offering ample access via designated sites, though be prepared for a rougher road in the upper sections. A 9-foot 5-weight fly rod is ideal for dry flies and small nymphs, with a sink tip line recommended for deeper runs.
