This year: The South Fork of the Flathead River above Hungry Horse Reservoir is currently flowing around 395 CFS, which is on the lower end of the August average of 478 CFS. Conditions are good for fishing. For techniques, hoppers and Chubbies have been very effective. In the late afternoon to early evening, try a Purple Haze pattern. Most rivers in Montana are no longer under hoot owl restrictions, though sections of the Madison, Big Hole, and Sun River remain exceptions.
