About Big Hole River
The Big Hole River in Montana is a 155-mile freestone river offering diverse fishing opportunities across its upper, canyon, and lower sections. Anglers can pursue a "Montana Grand Slam" of rainbow trout, brown trout, cutthroat trout, brook trout, and Arctic grayling. Key hatches include Skwala stoneflies, Caddis, Salmonflies, Golden Stones, Tricos, and Hoppers, providing excellent dry fly and nymphing opportunities throughout the season. The river features accessible 25-mile stretches ideal for wading, as well as canyon sections with boulder structure and pocket water, and lower sections with braided channels and long pools.
