Report Summary for Sep 2025
This year: Fishing has been excellent on the Middle Fork. Flows this month have averaged around 1106 CFS, ranging from 991 to 1190 CFS. This is slightly up from last month's average of 1037 CFS. Water temperatures have averaged 62°F, which is cooler than last month's average of 69°F. We're seeing some spawning activity, and fishing has been good all day. Trout are comfortable and willing, riding higher in the column and taking dries for much of the day. If they aren't looking up, pack a Versileader and a few woolly buggers. Middle Fork classics are producing well, and you'll want to size down a touch for the ribs. Don't overlook the tributaries, and streamers are getting more attention with the current flows. For dries, try Adams Dun, Mosquito Dry, Chernobyl Ant, and Hopper Popper. If you're going subsurface, a Purple Death Midge or Micro Popper can be effective. Don't forget the Woolly Bugger if they're not hitting dries, and a Swimming Orange Belly Frog might just surprise you.
