This year: Conditions on the Lemhi River system, particularly the drainage ponds like Hayden, Hyde, and Johnson, are shaping up nicely. Flows on the main river below the L5 diversion near Salmon have been highly variable, averaging around 109 CFS with swings from a low of 42 CFS to a peak of 434 CFS. The stillwaters in the drainage are offering good, consistent fishing action. Anglers should focus on the shallow waters of the ponds, especially where aquatic vegetation is starting to increase. Presenting your flies suspended under an indicator is the most effective approach right now in these areas. Midges and damselflies are the primary targets for the fish. Suspended Midge Pupa patterns are working exceptionally well across all the drainage stillwaters. Near the weed beds, fishing Damselfly Nymphs will also produce great results.
