Report Summary for Mar 2026
This year: Flow has been good on the Taylor River, around 110 CFS, and the water is clear. Fishing quality has been fantastic lately. The afternoon bite has been particularly strong. Nymphs and streamers are your best bet right now. Focus on reaching the feeding zone with some weight, especially in those deeper holes where you can work streamers with slow strips and long pauses. For rising fish, think small flies with long, light leaders, but don't be afraid to go a bit bigger in the low, clear water. We're seeing some Blue Wing Olive activity. For patterns, try the 20 Incher, Pheasant Tail Nymph, Pat's Midge, Two Bit Hooker, and Juju Baetis.
Best time of day: Afternoon
Prior years: Flow has been good and the water clear. Fishing quality is good. Be diligent and aware of redds; avoid fishing to and wading across cleared gravel beds. Nymphing is the primary method. Be on the lookout for late afternoon hatches. Focus on nymphing with small patterns. Spanish Bullet, Disco Midge, RS2, Baltic Candy Sand Eel, and Flashback Mercury Black Beauty in sizes 18-24 are working well. Blue Wing Olive (BWO) and Chironomid (Midge) hatches are occurring, with potential for late afternoon activity.
