About Conejos River

The Conejos River, a 92-mile tributary of the Rio Grande in south-central Colorado, offers excellent trout fishing in the San Juan Mountains. This river is home to a diverse population of trout and features numerous access points, including easements on private land and stretches within the San Juan National Forest and South San Juan Wilderness. Anglers can target trout with dry flies, nymphs, and streamers, utilizing a 4-weight fly rod with a floating line. Key hatches include Midges, Mayflies, Stoneflies, Caddis, and Terrestrials, providing ample opportunities for successful fly fishing throughout the year. Specific regulations apply to certain sections, such as the area downstream from Menkhaven Ranch through Aspen Glade Campground, which is artificial flies and lures only with a bag and possession limit of two trout 16 inches or longer.
