About Antero Reservoir

Antero Reservoir is a shallow, high-elevation lake in Colorado's South Park basin, renowned for its fast-growing Brown and Rainbow trout, with Cutthroat and Brook trout also present. This fertile fishery boasts abundant bug life, including midges and scuds, which fuel the growth of impressive fish that average around 15 inches, with many exceeding 18 inches and trophy fish over 20 inches caught regularly. Fishing from a float tube or other hand-launch craft is recommended for best success, particularly during the early season from ice-off to early June and again from late August to closing. Free camping is available on the south shore, and the South Fork of the South Platte River upstream offers excellent fall fishing for migrating Brown trout.
