Egg Patterns

Description
An egg fly is designed to imitate the size, shape, and appearance of fish eggs drifting naturally through the water. These patterns are especially effective for trout, salmon, and steelhead when spawning activity makes eggs an abundant and highly nutritious food source.
Egg patterns are most productive during and immediately following spawning periods, when loose eggs are carried downstream from spawning areas. They are commonly fished near the bottom as part of a nymphing rig or beneath an indicator, allowing the fly to drift naturally at the depth where fish are feeding. Although most associated with rivers and streams, egg patterns can also be effective in stillwaters where spawning fish are present.
