These midges, which fail to break free from their pupal shucks, are a significant food source for trout and other fish during midge hatches. The Stillborn Midge features a subtle yet effective design, using a low-profile body and an upward-facing CDC wing to float in the surface film, closely mimicking the helpless midge stuck on the water’s surface.

Focus on Subtle Movements: Cast the Stillborn Midge with minimal movement, as midges that fail to emerge properly often drift slowly or remain motionless. Allow the fly to sit in the current with little to no movement for the most natural presentation.
