Description

Eric's Midge is a fly pattern developed by Umpqua Signature Tier Eric Pettine, who came up with the idea for this midge pattern while fishing the San Juan River in New Mexico in the mid-1970s. Inspired by the need for a highly visible yet effective midge pattern, Pettine created a fly that was designed to float with ease, even in the most technical water conditions. The fly’s abbreviated tail balances the pattern on the surface of the water, while its closed-cell foam body gives it an almost unsinkable quality. The addition of the burnt orange indicator was specifically designed to help anglers, particularly those with aging eyesight, easily spot the fly on the water.

Pro Tip

Use a high-visibility indicator – While the burnt orange indicator on Eric’s Midge helps with visibility, you can take advantage of this by using the fly as an indicator pattern in a dry-dropper setup.
