PGH Black Stone image

Description

Developed by Kurt Shaffer of Pgh Fly Co in 2017, the pattern uses Lively Legz as a tool to mimic the black stonefly nymph. Using goose biots, vinyl ribbing, and peacock herl to simulate the gills of a stonefly nymph. Commonly tied in size 16 and 14, the variant was made for Great Lakes steelhead.

Pro Tip

Mimic the "Flutter and Skitter": On warmer winter days or early spring afternoons, try "skittering" the PGH Black Stone across the bottom of the stream by lifting and dropping your rod tip slightly as you retrieve. This mimics the natural movement of stonefly nymphs dislodged and swimming to nearby rocks.
