Parachute Hendrickson Light

The Parachute Light Hendrickson is a refined variation of the classic Hendrickson dry fly, a pattern that originated from early American tiers seeking to imitate the pale-bodied mayflies that appear in spring. The parachute adaptation came later, giving the fly a lower, more natural ride and improved visibility without sacrificing the delicate profile of the original. Its blend of soft coloration and balanced proportions makes it a reliable choice when trout become cautious during steady surface activity.

After winding the parachute hackle, clip just two or three fibers on the back side of the fly where the tail meets the thorax. This subtle “notch” helps the fly settle slightly tail-low, matching the natural’s posture during slow drifts and increasing your chances when trout are refusing other versions.
