Neon Nightmare Midge

Neon Nightmare Midge: Created by Matt McCannel, the Neon Nightmare Midge breaks away from traditional midge larvae patterns by introducing wild, bright colors that don’t necessarily imitate natural midge larvae. The idea behind this striking design came from McCannel's experimentation with unconventional colors in fly tying over the years. His thought process was simple: if bright colors are effective in other fly patterns, why not use them in a midge larvae pattern? The result is a highly visible fly that excels in bright, sunny conditions, making it an ideal choice for winter and spring fishing when fish are more likely to take notice of a bold presentation.

Fish It During Midday: This fly is particularly effective during the midday hours when the sun is high, and light penetrates the water. Midges are often hatching at these times, and the vibrant color of the Neon Nightmare Midge stands out when other, more natural patterns fail to catch the fish’s attention.
