McCannel's inspiration came from the need for a fly that not only mimics the appearance of the midge but also draws attention among the countless larvae in the water. With its vibrant colors and unique silhouette, the Mighty Midge is ideal for situations where fish are surrounded by a cloud of tiny midge larvae, giving it the necessary visibility to stand out.

Low-Light Conditions: When fishing in low-light conditions, such as early mornings or overcast skies, consider using a tandem rig with the Mighty Midge and a dark-colored midge nymph just below it. The contrast between the two flies can increase your chances of attracting fish, as the Mighty Midge’s brightness draws their attention, while the nymph mimics a food source.
