The Mulberry Fly is built around one key trigger: the unmistakable plop of a ripe berry hitting the water. That sound alone can send fish—especially carp—into a competitive feeding rush as they race to beat others to the fallen fruit. Designed by Dirk Fischbach, shop owner and head guide at Bailiwicks Outfitters in Dexter, Michigan, this pattern mimics both the silhouette and surface impact of a natural mulberry.

Let it plop. Drop the fly from a few inches above the surface instead of laying it down softly—the audible “berry splash” draws carp in before they even see it.
