Description
Imposter Pupa Midge is a fly pattern created by Umpqua Signature Tier John Wood, developed after years of refinement and experimentation in search of the ideal chironomid pattern for stillwater fishing. The Imposter Pupa Midge is specifically designed to be suspended under an indicator, effectively replicating the emergence of midge pupae in the water column. The prominently visible, fluorescent orange wing buds, shrouded under clear UV resin, accurately imitate the expanding, highly visible thorax of an emerging midge pupa suspended in the water column, mimicking the key characteristics of midge pupae that trout target during hatches. The translucent rib, over a matching thread body, creates a subtle sheen that contributes to a natural, lifelike presentation.
Pro Tip
Adjust retrieve speed to match emergence activity – The key to fishing the Imposter Pupa Midge effectively is matching the retrieval speed to the midge emergence rate. If midges are rising slowly, keep the fly still or retrieve it very slowly. During more active emergence, a slight twitch or gentle movement of the fly can mimic a struggling pupa, making it more attractive to fish.
