Description

The Hendrickson Dark Dry Fly, a classic Catskill pattern, was developed in 1916 by Roy Steenrod to imitate the male Ephemerella subvaria mayfly, commonly known as the Hendrickson. This fly features a dark, reddish-brown or gray body to match the male dun's coloration and is traditionally tied with upright wood duck flank wings and dark dun hackle. It has become a staple in Eastern and Midwestern trout fishing, particularly effective during the early spring Hendrickson hatches.

Pro Tip

Matching Hatch Timing: The male Hendrickson duns often emerge slightly earlier in the day than females. Fishing the Hendrickson Dark Dry during these early emergence periods can increase success rates.
