Description
The AuSable Bomber is a high-floating, deer-hair dry fly originally tied for the turbulent pocket water of the Adirondacks’ AuSable River. Built with a stacked deer-hair body, calf-tail wings, and a buoyant hackle collar, the Bomber rides high even in broken water where more delicate ties collapse. It imitates a broad range of food forms—large caddis, stoneflies, terrestrials, and even drowning mayflies
Pro Tip
Trim the underside of the body slightly concave rather than flat. This creates a subtle “keel effect,” helping the Bomber land upright more consistently and track straighter in mixed currents—an advantage most anglers never think to build into the fly.
