Description
Designed by Mike Mercer of Redding, CA. its "Z" shaped wings create a unique silhouette on the water's surface, mimicking the natural caddis emergence. There are usually three color variations to this pattern: Olive (for cloudy days and the fall), Caddis Green (for the Spring Mother's Day hatch), and Amber (a good choice year round).
Pro Tip
Fish the Z Wing Caddis on a dead drift near the bottom during pre-hatch periods, or let it swing upward at the end of the drift to imitate a rising pupa. Use a two-fly rig with the Z Wing as the dropper to target both subsurface and emerging fish. Adjust colors like tan, olive, or brown to match local caddis species for best results.
