Description
The Utah Killer bug was developed by Tenkara Guides LLC as a modern answer to Frank Sawyer’s Killer Bug. It used Jaimeson’s Oyster Shetland Spindrift yarn in lieu of the now impossible-to-find Chadwick’s #477 yarn of the original.
Pro Tip
When fishing the Utah Killer Bug, focus on deep pools and runs where trout often feed on drifting larvae. Employ a dead-drift presentation, ensuring the fly sinks to the desired depth by using an appropriate amount of weight or selecting a heavier version of the fly. Utilizing a Euro-nymphing technique can enhance sensitivity to subtle strikes, increasing your hookup rate. Adjust your leader length and weight to maintain consistent contact with the fly as it drifts naturally with the current.
