Description

The Spring's Wiggler is a classic Michigan fly pattern developed by Ron Spring, a sporting goods store owner from Muskegon, Michigan. Originally tied in the mid-20th century, this pattern was specifically designed to imitate Hexagenia limbata, also known as the Giant Michigan Mayfly. This large, burrowing mayfly species plays a critical role in the diet of trout and other gamefish, especially during its prolific late spring and summer emergences. With its thick, buggy body, prominent tail, and pulsing hackle, the Spring’s Wiggler effectively mimics the profile and motion of the Hex nymph as it rises from the silt to hatch.

Pro Tip

Slow Retrieve in Lakes: In stillwater, strip it slowly along soft-bottomed shallows where Hex nymphs live. Trout often follow and strike during the pause.
