Description

The Rag Hex, produced by Umpqua Feather Merchants, is a highly effective fly pattern designed to imitate the nymph stage of the Hexagenia mayfly, one of the largest mayfly species in North America. This fly is particularly valuable during the Hexagenia hatch, which occurs in late spring and early summer in slow-moving rivers and lakes with silty bottoms.

Pro Tip

Post-Hatch Cleanup: After the primary hatch has subsided, use the Rag Hex during the morning when spent Hex nymphs settle back to the riverbed. Fish it close to the bottom with a weighted rig and a slow, crawling retrieve to imitate leftover, vulnerable nymphs that trout will still feed on.
