Snail Fab

The Snail FAB (Foam Arsed Blob) fly, designed by Russ Owen in 2017, is a highly innovative pattern created specifically for targeting rainbow and brown trout feeding on snails in large UK stillwaters. Combining the natural snail profile with the buoyancy and attractor qualities of a FAB-style tail, this fly is both versatile and effective. Its foam-enhanced design allows it to float or suspend just beneath the surface, making it ideal for imitating drifting snails and drawing aggressive strikes from trout in both calm and windy conditions.

Experiment with Retrieves: While the fly is designed for static presentation, occasional short pulls or twitches can simulate a struggling snail and provoke aggressive reactions from nearby trout.
